How Teachers Send Attachments on the Mobile App

Modified on Thu, 15 Oct at 12:51 AM

You can send files, images and videos in any personal or group chat on the AOneSchools Mobile App. You can also take photos and record videos straight from the app. This guide covers what you can send, how to send it, and what to do if something doesn’t go through.

Note: Files and images are available on the Tier 1 Starter plan. Videos are available on the Tier 2 Pro plan. If your school is on the Free plan, you won’t see the attachment option. Please check with your school admin if you need access.

You can attach up to 10 items in a new message, or 1 item when replying to a message.

Sending an Attachment

  1. Open a chat room (personal or group).

  2. Tap the Attachments button beside the message box.

  3. Choose an option. Use File Attachments, Image Attachments or Video Attachment to pick from your phone, or Take Photo or Record Video to use your camera. The options you see depend on your school’s plan.

  4. Select or capture the item(s) you want to send. A preview will appear.

  5. Optionally, edit your image or video (see below) and type a message or caption.

  6. Tap Submit.

Taking a photo

Photos taken in the app are limited to 5 MB. If a photo is larger, it will be compressed automatically. You can take more photos or edit them before sending.

Recording a video

After recording, tap Retake to record again, or Use Video to go to the editing screen. When you’re happy with it, tap Choose to add it to your message, or Cancel to return to the chat.

Recorded videos must be 250 MB or smaller. If yours is larger, you’ll see an error and will need to record a shorter video.

Editing Before Sending

Images

  • Rotate: turns the image 90° to the left with each tap.

  • Crop: adjusts the image to a preset ratio.

  • Reset: undoes all your edits.

Videos

  • Flip: flips the video.

  • Rotate: turns the video 90° to the left with each tap.

  • Crop: adjusts the video to a preset ratio.

  • Trim: removes the parts you don’t want to include.

  • Reset: undoes all your edits.

Adding More Attachments

To add more items to the same message, tap Add More Attachments in the preview area. For camera photos, tap Take More Picture, and for recorded videos, tap Record More Video. New items are added to what you’ve already selected, up to 10 in total. This option is only available for new messages, not replies.

How multiple attachments are sent

Each attachment is sent as its own message. For example, selecting three images sends three separate messages. If you add a caption, it appears only with the first attachment.

If a Message Fails to Send

If a message doesn’t go through (for example, due to a slow connection), you’ll see a small error indicator on it. Tap the indicator and choose:

  • Resend Message: tries again. If it succeeds, it appears as the latest message in the chat.

  • Delete Message: removes the failed message from the chat.

Good to Know

  • Items that are too large or in an unsupported format won’t be added to the preview.

  • If you select several videos and one doesn’t meet the requirements, the others will still upload.
