This guide covers how to view and download files, images and videos sent in a chat, and how to find everything shared in a conversation in one place. To learn how to send attachments, see How Teachers Send Attachments on the Mobile App.
Note: Files and images are available on the Tier 1 Starter plan, and videos on the Tier 2 Pro plan. If your school is on the Free plan, there won’t be any attachments in your chats.
Viewing an Attachment
Images: tap the image in the chat to open it in full screen.
Videos: tap the video thumbnail to play it.
Files: files can’t be viewed in the app. Download them instead (see below).
Downloading an Attachment
Files: tapping a file won’t download it. Tap the Action button ( : ) on the message and select Download Files.
Images and videos: tap the Action button ( : ) on the message and select Download Attachment.
Where your download goes
This depends on your phone. iPhone (iOS) and Android phones handle downloads differently. For example, your phone may save the file straight to your Downloads folder or photo gallery, or show a menu asking where to save it or which app to open it with. Once it’s downloaded, you can open it from there.
Finding All Shared Media and Files
Instead of scrolling through a conversation, use Media and Files to see everything shared in that chat in one place. To open it:
Open the chat and tap the Action button at the top.
Select Media and Files. (Or select View Details, then tap Shared Media and Files.)
Items are listed from newest to oldest. This month’s items appear under “This Month”, and older ones are grouped by month (for example, “March 2026”).
Media Tab
Shows all images and videos in a grid. Videos show their duration on the thumbnail. Tap an image to open it in full screen, or tap a video to play it. From there, use the buttons at the bottom:
Download: saves it to your phone.
Go To Message: takes you to the original message in the chat and highlights it.
Tap Close (X) to return to the Media tab.
Files Tab
Shows all documents and other files, with the same Download and Go To Message options.
Good to Know
An image or video may look blurry or take a moment to open until it has fully loaded. You can still download it while it’s loading.
If a video is still loading, wait for it to finish before playing it.
