AOneSchools has built-in chat so you can message teachers, admins, guardians and staff without leaving the app. This guide covers six features you’ll use in any chat: Search, Reply, Read Receipts, Copy, Delete and Forward.
Most of these are found under the Action button ( : ) next to each message.
Search
Find older messages in a chat without scrolling.
Open the chat and tap the Search icon at the top.
Type a word or phrase. Results load automatically, or tap Enter/Return to search straight away.
Matches are highlighted in bold orange. Use the up arrow for older matches and the down arrow for newer ones. An arrow greys out when you reach the first or last match.
Tap the X on the search bar when you’re done.
If nothing matches, you’ll see a message letting you know, so you can try another keyword.
Reply
Respond to a specific message so everyone can see what you’re replying to.
Tap the Action button next to the message.
Select Reply Message. A preview of the original message appears above the message box.
Type your reply and send it. To cancel, tap the X on the preview.
Anyone can tap the original message in a reply to jump to it. You can reply to any message, including your own. To learn more about sending files, see How Teachers Send Attachments on the Mobile App.
Read Receipts
Check marks on your sent messages show their status:
One white check mark: sent.
Two white check marks: delivered, not yet read.
Two green check marks: read.
In group chats, the check marks turn green only after every member has read the message.
Seeing exact delivery and read times
Tap the Action button next to your sent message.
Select Message Info to see when it was delivered and read (for example, “Today 19:04”).
A tilde (~) means the message hasn’t been delivered or read yet.
Copy
Tap the Action button next to the message.
Select Copy Text. The text is copied to your clipboard.
This option only appears on messages with text. If a message has a file and text, only the text is copied.
Delete
Tap the Action button next to the message.
Select Delete Message. Checkboxes appear, with that message already ticked.
Tick any other messages you want to delete.
Tap Delete at the bottom of the screen, then tap Yes to confirm.
Your own message is deleted for everyone. Others see “This message was deleted”.
Someone else’s message is removed only from your view.
Forward
Share any message, including text, files, images and videos, with other people or groups without retyping or re-uploading.
Tap the Action button next to the message.
Select Forward Message. Checkboxes appear, with that message already ticked.
Tick any other messages you want to forward, then tap Forward at the bottom of the screen.
Search for and select the people or groups to send to (up to 5 at a time).
Tap Forward Message.
The message appears in the recipient’s chat with a “Forwarded” label. The content is not changed.
Good to Know
A reply can include only one file or image.
Images and files count as read only once the recipient opens the chat and the attachment is visible on their screen.
Copying a reply copies only your text, not attachments or the original message.
Forwarding a reply forwards only your reply, not the original message.
Forwarding to someone you haven’t chatted with before starts a new conversation with them automatically.
If a message is deleted, any replies to it stay, with “This message was deleted” in place of the original. Copies that were already forwarded are not affected.
If you delete the latest message in a chat, your chat list preview updates to the next most recent message.
Tapping a notification for a message that has since been deleted will show an error. This is normal.
