How to Allow Parents to Start a Chat with Teachers

Modified on Sun, 9 Aug at 10:15 PM

AOne Schools In-App Messaging allows learning centres to control how communication happens between parents or guardians and teachers.

By default:

  • Guardians can always start a chat with Admins,
  • Guardian cannot initiate a personal chat with Teachersunless the school allows it.

If your learning centre would like to allow guardians to start conversations with teachers, you may follow the steps below:

  1. Log in to AOne Schools Web App as Admin or Superadmin
  2. Click the Profile icon in the top-right corner
  3. Select Settings
  4. Open the Other Settings tab
  5. Find the option: “Enable parent to initiate personal message with teacher”
  6. Tick the checkbox to allow
  7. Click Save to apply the change

For reference, you may compare the difference between when the setting is enabled and when it is disabled:

Important Things to Know:

  1. Existing conversations are not deleted.
If the setting was previously enabled and is later disabled, existing parent-teacher conversations will not be deleted. Parents and teachers can continue replying within those existing conversations.

  2. This setting applies to the whole school.
The configuration is applied at the school level, meaning it affects all parents in the same learning centre.

  3. It only affects Guardians.
The setting only affects users logged in as guardians in the mobile app. It does not affect teachers, who can still communicate according to their normal permissions

  4. Remember to save your changes.
Any changes to the checkbox will not take effect until you click “Save.” If you change the checkbox but leave the page without saving, the setting will remain unchanged.
